Hugh Robert Mill - his autobiography #1

New in my library of books relating to the history of the RGS is this book: the autobiography of Hugh Robert Mill, who was GA President in 1932 but also had a very long association with the RGS as well, holding various posts at the RGS.

This is a first edition, with an introduction by L. Dudley Stamp. I got it for a good price too.

Mill was a contemporary of many of the other greats of the post-war period including Herbertson, Keltie, Geddes, MacKinder et al. He met all the greats at the RGS too, and shares his excitement of that period of the book.

There are several of his items in the GA Archives which I've seen when preparing my GA Presidents biography blog.

One of the stories connected with his GA Presidential address is that by this stage - having been affected by ill health throughout his life, he was almost completely blind and gave his 1933 address from memory.

In the same year, he was offered the Presidency of the RGS, but declined.
