Commemorating the first ascent, 73 years ago today.

The RGS supported the earlier 1924 expedition where Mallory and Irvine disappeared.

At the RGS in the Education / Summit room there is a model which was used to plan the ascent of Everest. This 10-inch-to-the-mile scale model of Everest was originally built in 1952 by Cockade Limited, Model makers, Craftsmen and Designers, with assistance from mountaineer Eric Shipton and the Royal Geographical Society.

The RGS also sells platinum prints of Everest expeditions.

The RGS has created a range of education materials linked to Everest.
