RGS Young Geographer of the Year 2025 - competition theme now revealed

It's that time of year again for the launch of the Young Geographer of the Year category. This annual competition is run by the Royal Geographical Society. The Young Geographer of the Year is the Society’s annual competition which recognises the outstanding work of the next generation of geographers. With its age ranges spanning the primary years to A Level, the competition encourages thoughtful and creative answers to the competition’s theme which is set each year. The Society encourages schools to run their own in-house competition and then send their top 10 entries into the international competition. Kate Marsden

I keep coming across references to Fellows of the RGS in my reading, and where relevant I shall develop those connections here. I recently read the excellent 'Extreme North' by Bernd Brunner and in it he talks about Kate Marsden. She was a missionary and explorer, who explored Siberia looking for a cure for leprosy. RGS President 1963-1966: Sir Dudley Stamp

There have been several people who have served as President of the Royal Geographical Society as well as President of the Geographical Association. The sixth of these was Sir Dudley Stamp. He bcame President in the year of my birth. He was hugely influential and well travelled, and his name crops up all the time. This blog post was originally written for my GA Presidents blog project. Another geographical great was GA President in 1950. One whose work is still referenced today, and who was very prolific and started young. Just two years after H. J. Fleure, we had another geographical 'big hitter'. Professor (Laurence) Dudley Stamp was one of the leading lights in geography of the 20th Century, and his work is still referenced today, and some of his books are still in print and available to purchase.
