Resources on Racism, Islamophobia and Muslim Geographies

The middle weeks of the summer term saw some awful scenes in a number of locations with racist and Islamophobic riots. Many of the people involved have been identified and sentenced quickly with more to come. I also saw several gatherings of people reclaiming their cities after the original few days of unrest.

Students will be going back in some schools in the next few days, and they will perhaps be unaware that their classmates - or potentially parents of classmates - have been charged with being involved in the unrest and rioting and looting we saw in a number of city centres over the first few weekends of August. Some of those sentenced were of school age.

The RGS has a number of working groups who do excellent work which is not always publicised to everyone who might find it useful. I will share information on them all on this blog in due course.

The Race, Culture and Equality Working Group has been quick to collate a number of resources which may be of use when exploring such issues with students. They can be accessed here.
