I'm very much looking forward to continuing working with the RGS Education Team over the remaining years of my role as Vice President.
It's been a busy and productive first year and a bit of my role so far.
There are several people in the team, who are part of a wider team called Education, Research, Higher Education and Professional.
Overall leadership of this team comes from Catherine Souch.
Catherine is Head of Research and Higher Education at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG).Catherine has a BA (Hons) from University of Cambridge and an MSc and PhD in Geography from the University of British Columbia. Before returning to the UK, she was Associate Dean and Professor of Geography at Indiana University, Indianapolis. Catherine's own research focuses on records of environmental change from lake and wetland sediments.
This aims to provide support for geographers at all stages of their career: at school, in higher education
Claire Brown and Simon Pinfield work on all the projects linked with schools. They have a lot of experience working at the RGS and supporting teachers as well as promoting the value of geography. They are supported by two other colleagues:
Rachel Owen is a resource writer on the team.
Alice Matthews is the co-ordinator for the Choose Geography programme of activity.
Follow them on Twitter for regular updates on their work, which includes updates on RGS led CPD using a range of presenters who have wonderful ideas to share.
My other role as Vice President of the Society is to chair the meetings of the Education Committee.
