One of the central spaces in the Royal Geographical Society is the Main Hall.
Arriving from the Kensington entrance (the one with the bust of Sir Clements Markham outside) it is just beyond the entrance lobby which contains boards of award and medal winners over the years - full of illustrious names.
The Main Hall was used by a friend of mine for her wedding.
It can be used as a venue for weddings and other celebrations. The wooden floor speaks of history and countless meetings, walked over by the great and the good, explorers and educators alike.
There are paintings hung on the walls of explorers and other geographers, and the space has been rehung recently. There are various doors coming off the main hall heading for other rooms such as the Education area, or the corridor leading to the Map Room and the Ondaatje Theatre.
There are the stairs up to the Lowther Room and staff offices, and the door through to the Tea Room and the gardens.
This is often a space for receptions, or public events, as well as dinners following Monday Night lectures.
Come and tread the boards some time.
