RGS Online CPD on Evaluating like a Geographer

Another excellent CPD offering for teachers from the RGS-IBG Schools team.

Evaluation is the greatest assessment challenge for many Geography students - especially those not taking other subjects that require them to develop evaluative essay-writing skills. There’s more to doing well in exams than revision: evaluative skills develop over time through active reading and critical thinking, even at Key Stage Three.

Aimed at both new and more experienced teachers, you will discover a range of strategies for developing students' evaluative and decision-making capabilities.

This session focuses on:
  • Ways of helping students of all ages develop higher-order thinking skills in Geography.
  • Strategies for teaching and learning that will help students to develop the skills needed to arrive at 'substantiated' and 'rational' conclusions or judgements.
  • The use of geographic concepts, theories and ideas to build better arguments.

It's presented by the mighty Simon Oakes.
